I was delighted to participate in the third annual "Chair Affair" sponsored by the Furniture Bank of Toronto. Designers and artists were invited to transform an old chair into a new creation to be auctioned off at the event. The theme for this particular event was "Vibrant Toronto;" the chair had to reflect a place or aspect of the city.
A collaborative effort with my sister artist Lisa Meschino, we chose the Toronto Music Garden on the waterfront. Inspired by Yo Yo Ma the garden is a "landscape reflection" of Bach's Suite #1 in G major for unaccompanied cello. We had the actual prelude to the Suite printed on fabric, paired it with a dramatic floral, and accented the chair's curves with glossy black paint and garden-green trim.
