garden of dreams

My clients, a professional couple, had decorated the rest of their charming older home, but had neglected their bedroom. The room contained odds and ends of furniture left over from the days of her first apartment. They dreamed of a warm, inviting room bursting with colour, and with a nod to the lovely natural landscape outside their windows.

The jumping-off point for my redesign was fabric; a graphic green and white drapery panel, and a fun floral print. I painted the walls a soft grass green and the ceiling the palest blue, and used the floral fabric to create a bed skirt and shams for the new bed; a rich coral picked up from the bed skirt became a main accent colour, with touches of black to anchor the room.  The new linen-upholstered headboard and cream duvet cover provide visual calm amidst the riot of patterns and colours.

New night tables, a large dresser, and a console table that serves as a jewellery box/dressing table for her offer efficient clean-lined storage in the modestly-sized room.

My clients love their bedroom;  she says that lying on the bed makes her feel as though she is lying in a field of flowers looking up at the sky!
